Footlights is a free, non-commercial guide to live music in New York City, run by one person. This page is written in plain language rather than legalese. If anything is unclear, email hello@footlights.nyc.

Terms of use

Using Footlights

Listings are informational. Each one is factual detail (artist, venue, date, time, price, ticket link) compiled from public sources with our own original commentary added. Details change often, so always confirm with the venue or ticketing page before making plans, buying tickets, or traveling. The site is provided as is, and we can't guarantee a listing is accurate, current, or that an event will happen as described.

Your account

An account is optional. You sign in with a one-time link sent to your email — there's no password. Anyone with access to your inbox can sign in, so keep it secure; you're responsible for activity under your account. You can delete your account and saved items at any time by emailing hello@footlights.nyc.

Acceptable use

Footlights is for personal, non-commercial use. Please don't scrape, bulk-download, or republish the catalog, and don't disrupt the service or misuse accounts.

Content & rights

Our editorial commentary and the site itself are our work. We publish factual listing details plus original copy — we don't reproduce a source's description or host promotional images we don't have rights to. Artist, venue, and event names, logos, and trademarks belong to their owners; listing them isn't affiliation with or endorsement by them. To correct or remove something, use corrections & takedown.

Links to other sites

We credit and link out to venues, ticketing pages, and sources. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, tickets, or privacy practices.

No warranties & liability

Footlights is provided without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses arising from your use of the site or reliance on a listing — for example, a show that's moved, sold out, or cancelled. Confirm the details before you commit.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to Footlights will be handled in the state or federal courts located in New York.

Privacy

What we collect

If you create an account, we store your email address, an optional display name, and the shows, artists, and venues you save. Our hosting keeps basic technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) as part of running the site, and we use privacy-friendly analytics to understand usage in aggregate. There's nothing to buy, so we never collect payment information.

Cookies & local storage

A session cookie keeps you signed in. We also store a small flag in your browser to remember that you dismissed the “add to home screen” tip. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Services we rely on

We use a few third-party providers to run Footlights, and each only receives what it needs to do its job:

  • Supabase — accounts and database (stores your email, display name, and saved items).
  • Vercel — hosting and privacy-friendly usage analytics (aggregate metrics, no cross-site profiles).
  • Google Maps— venue maps. When a map loads, Google receives your IP address and map interactions, subject to Google's privacy policy.
  • An email provider — delivers your sign-in links.

How we use it

We use your information to run the service — sign you in and show the items you've saved — and to understand usage in aggregate. We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. We may share information with the providers above to operate the site, or if we're legally required to.

Keeping & deleting data

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Email hello@footlights.nycto delete your account and saved items, and we'll remove them promptly.

Children

Footlights isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls. No online service is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes & contact

We may update this page as Footlights grows; the “last updated” date above shows when it last changed. For questions, corrections, or any privacy or account request, email hello@footlights.nyc or use the corrections & takedown page.
